Yes, if you ask Beauty Heroes and INNOCOS. The clean beauty discovery service and the global INNOCOS summit organizer have teamed up to launch a new awards program recognizing brands and products that are doing just that.

The first Blue Beauty Awards ceremony will take place on March 2nd at the INNOCOS Summit in Scottsdale, Arizona.

“Every business and individual needs to take actions that put the planet first,” explains this week’s media release announcing the new awards program. “To this end, and to inspire innovation in sustainability, we are launching our first ever Blue Beauty Awards, in collaboration with Jeannie Jarnot, Founder of Beauty Heroes.”

Blue Beauty is taking the industry beyond clean and green

“I view Blue Beauty as beauty initiatives that are not only ocean-friendly, but also contribute back to the environment in a meaningful way,” Jarnot tells Cosmetics Design.

“This could be through innovative ingredient sourcing, innovative packaging that is biodegradable, up-cycled, refillable or even eliminated all together (love that!),” says Jarnot. And she explains that blue beauty can also come in the form of “an innovative campaign or community initiative that inspires a customer base to take action that is positive for the environment.” And “It can also include giving back to the environment in a notable way,” she says.

Still, the Blue Beauty Awards and all of Jarnot’s Blue Beauty ventures are about more than celebrating the businesses and initiatives that are already making an effort to leave the planet better than they found it. They’re also about helping consumers find and support those brands, and about inspiring an industry to do better as a whole.

My vision for our Project Blue Beauty at Beauty Heroes is to support truly sustainable beauty products and brands so they can gain adoption, grow and give consumers sustainable options for products that we need and want,” Jarnot tells Cosmetics Design.

“I feel very strongly that we need to reward and celebrate innovation in sustainability, to further inspire and cultivate further innovation,” she says, adding that, “If companies see brands making positive decisions for the environment as well as see them being recognized for their efforts, I think this pushes the industry forward and encourages others to take action.”

INNOCOS Scottsdale program will include sustainable beauty topics

Each INNOCOS event is a meeting of minds among cosmetics and personal care executives as well as beauty industry allies. At the upcoming INNOCOS Scottsdale event, representatives of the recycling venture Terracycle and shopping platform for refillables, Loop, will be on hand.

The summit will also feature case-study presentations from sustainable brands. And Jillian Wright, Co-Founder of the Indie Beauty Media Group, will lead The Climate Decade Panel discussion (which will also include Jarnot among other panelists).

The 2020 Blue Beauty Awards deadline is January 25

Beyond the honor of being acknowledged as a Blue Beauty leader, winning brands and products will have “an opportunity to collaborate with Beauty Heroes, a leading healthy beauty retailer and discovery platform and the 1% For the Planet company that is leading the Blue Beauty movement. Beauty Heroes will collaborate with the winner on Blue Beauty Discovery and placement in the Beauty Heroes e-commerce and brick and mortar stores,” according to the release.

Submissions can highlight any blue beauty initiative: marketing, packaging, formulation, community engagement, or content. And brands and products in any beauty category are eligible as are wellness and lifestyle brands and products. It’s worth noting too that, “to be considered, product formulas must adhere to the Beauty Heroes ingredient standard.”
