Beauty Independent is the news and editorial division of the Indie Beauty Media Group, the company that organizes the Indie Beauty Expo (IBE), BeautyX educational summits, and Uplink Live events.
And this month, the online publication announced the new Beacon Awards program because, as Beauty Independent Editor Rachel Brown writes, “We love celebrating the community bringing change to the beauty industry….we’re launching a new initiative to recognize guiding lights in the indie beauty segment. We’re calling it the Beacon Awards.”

The 2020 Beacon Award nominees will be announced soon
Beauty Independent will announce this year’s Beacon Award nominees at the end of July. And expert judges—informed by input from the Beauty Independent subscriber community—will evaluate each nominee and select award winners.
According to materials shared with Cosmetics Design, confirmed Beacon Award judges include Carol Hamilton, L’Oréal Group President of Acquisitions; David Yi, Editor in Chief of Very Good Light; Kelly St John, Founder of the KSJ Collective; Joel Palix of Joel Palix Unlimited; and wellness influencer Chelsea Williams.
As with all IBMG initiative, an indie beauty company is defined as a beauty company that is 51% individual owner-operator controlled.
