This month, Antipodes signed a partnership deal with the natural CPG distributor to reach consumers across Canada.

In late 2018, Cosmetics Design called attention to the rise in popularity of cosmetics and personal care brands and ingredients from Australia and New Zealand in this trends preview video. And moves like the one Antipodes made this month only highlight how the Oceania trend continues to build momentum in the global marketplace.

Of course, other companies from New Zealand have made headlines on the Cosmetics Design sites recently too. In May, The Better Packaging Company, which is based in Auckland, New Zealand, was in the news for its sustainable e-commerce mailers. As Co-Founders Rebecca Percasky and Kate Bezar told this publication, the mailers “are partly made from plants, are re-useable at least a couple of times…and then can be composted to grow more plants.” Read more about The Better Packaging Company here on Cosmetics Design.

And in June, Cosmetics Design – Asia covered news of New Zealand – based Organic Bioactives and that company’s launch of the OceanDerMX portfolio of skin care ingredients, a collection of four ingredients made from bioactive compounds extracted from locally harvested and cultivated botanicals such as red seaweed, green algae, black fern, the Kawakawa tree, and more. Antipodes deal with Purity Life expands the brand's reach in North America

Elizabeth Barbalich founded Antipodes in 2006; and the brand has been available in Canada (where the Purity Life partnership applies) on ecommerce sites like Well.ca and on the shelf at Wholefoods for some time.

But the newly signed deal with Purity Life, a company that distributes natural consumer goods to pharmacies and natural product stores all across Canada, expands the brand's reach significantly. Purity works with supplements brands, vitamin makers, health food companies, and household goods companies, as well as with natural body care, skin care, and beauty brands. And the company will now be distributing Antipodes products to retail partners across Canada.

Antipodes formulates with ingredients sourced from New Zealand

Antipodes is a skin care, body care, and color cosmetics brand built around natural ingredients sourced from New Zealand.

“We deliberately use clean, organic New Zealand ingredients, we only partner with suppliers who align with our values, and we've retained manufacturing in New Zealand for sustainability and quality control purposes,” explains Barbalich in this month’s media release about the new distribution deal.

“That's our green beauty ethos,” she says, “and we're proud to share that with the world.”

The brand’s products are often formulated with super fruit extracts like kiwi seed oil, avocado oil, and Vinanza grape extract (an ingredient that’s upcycled from the seeds of Marlborough sauvignon blanc grapes). The Antipodes roster of hero ingredients from New Zealand also includes manuka honey and a plant-based hyaluronic acid.

“I wanted to prove to customers that they could rely on our scientists' breakthrough research to produce eco-minded skincare that was kinder to their skin and the planet, but was also results-driven and raised the bar when it came to improving the appearance and health of skin,” says Barbalich.
