While social distancing and stay-home precautions remain in place to keep the world’s population safer during the Coronavirus pandemic, so many of the places and events where beauty and fragrance industry professionals regularly gathered are now online only.
Yet, teamwork, collaboration, networks, organizations, and communities have become so much more necessary and import in 2020. “During these unprecedented times, it is more important than ever to connect as a community to celebrate those who bring passion, artistry, and creativity to the fragrance world,” said Linda G. Levy, President of The Fragrance Foundation in her remarks during last week’s event.
She also extended “congratulations to all of the 2020 Fragrance Foundation Awards winners and finalists.” And took care to thank the 1000+ viewers “for tuning in and joining us for the first-ever webinar of The Fragrance Foundation Awards.”
The Fragrance Foundation keeps growing and changing with the times
The Fragrance Foundation was established in 1949 and serves the industry as a professional organization intent on inspiring “the world to discover the artistry and passion of fragrance,” according to the Foundation’s current mission statement.
For 2020, The Fragrance Foundation gave 3 awards to brands that created ‘universal’ fragrances, scents blended for people rather than for men or women.
In her coverage of the event for Foundation’s site, Katie Becker, ELLE Beauty and Health Director, describes ‘universal’ as “a whole new category…, recognizing our culture’s social evolution away from strictly men’s and women’s fragrances and into a world of fragrance that is not defined by gender.”
In this first year for the universal award categories, BYREDO won with Sundazed for Fragrance of the Year Universal Luxury, Gucci’s Mémoire d’une Odeur Eau de Parfum won for Fragrance of the Year Universal Prestige, and The Alchemist’s Garden The Eyes of the Tiger (also from Gucci) won for Packaging of the Year Universal.
