NutraIngredients-USA wanted to peel back the many layers of this category, so we brought together a group that know this sector better than anybody else: Asma Ishaq, CEO of Modere; Rachel Jones, Chief Nutrition Officer at GNC; Dawna Salter Venzon, Principal Research Scientist at Amway Global / Nutrilite; and Deanna Utroske, Editor of Cosmetics Design.
During the webinar, which was put on along with our sister site Cosmetics Design, we explored a number of topics and questions, many generated from viewers. One question asked, “What is the next collagen?”
“I would point back here to hyaluronic acid,” said Utroske. “I would also expect to see argan oil supplements on the market. Keratin comes and goes in popularity, botanicals like saw palmetto show some certain advantages, but also are likely to impact hormone function and so, therefore can be of concern to particular consumers. If I were to look back though, if I can say that maybe vegan collagen is the next collagen, I might go that far.”
Other ingredients that were thrown into the ring include ceramides, lutein, prebiotics and probiotics, along with the more traditional letter vitamins.
Each panelist brought a unique perspective to the discussion, offering insights on which ingredients deserve more attention, the spectrum of benefits claimed in the category, what the research says, and more.
