If beards are makeup for men, then a recently launched digital tool is here to prove it, at least from the virtual try-on perspective.

Perfect Corp expanded its YouCam Makeup app with a new beard try-on technology which Chief Growth Officer at Perfect Corp Wayne Liu told CosmeticsDesign has applications both in consumer engagement and advancing virtual try-on more broadly.

The company uses its virtual try-on technology both for its own app and in building try-on functions for clients in beauty and personal care, as well as other industries.

CosmeticsDesign spoke with Ludovic Wassermann, cosmetics and personal care business consultant at Centric Software, about the role software plays in today's push for sustainability and in the future of a sustainable personal care market.

How do you see technology fitting into meeting sustainability demands?

Good Face Project announced Tuesday a $5.65 million investment from VMG Capital. The company has introduced an AI-powered platform for aiding R&D in any vertical which relies on chemistry, starting with cosmetics.

CEO and co-founder of Good Face Project Iva Teixeira told CosmeticsDesign that the platform is intended to allow R&D teams and brands to address mounting consumer demands at the start of product development.

While the development process used to include creating a product and then screening it against the relevant regulations, Teixeira said today’s market moves too quickly and includes too many demands to use the same model.

How Because Intelligence wants to use automation to tame the wilds of eCommerce

Because Intelligence is a pandemic-born tech company using automation to optimize product pages so brands don’t have to do it by hand.

As DTC has become essential in the beauty sector most steps along the purchasing journey have been streamlined, but automation could help focus websites more on conversion from product page to purchase.

CEO of Because Intelligence Ashland Stansbury told CosmeticsDesign that most of the innovation in eCommerce over the past 10 years has been around the checkout process.

“One of the most forgotten parts of the buying journey on the website is actually the product page,” Stansbury said. “The product page and the messaging that site visitors see has never been automated before because it is a very time-consuming process. There's typically anywhere from hundreds to thousands of SKUs to manage on a per store basis.”
