CDU: What are some of the most exciting industry trends that we can expect to see at the NYSCC Supplier’s Day show this year?
Stacey House (SH): Innovation is constant and key in this industry and it will be on full display at Suppliers’ Day this year. Functional beauty solutions to support skinification with biotech, fermented ingredients to help address inflammation and skin stressors that contribute to well-being will be evident and explored.
Sustainability is a mainstay and is a positive catalyst creating exciting trend opportunities giving new life to product forms, ingredients, and packaging.
As purchasing behavior is becoming more intentional, there will also be discussions about consumers need to understand the ingredients and claim benefits of their beauty and personal care products.
This is also our biggest show floor to date, and we expect a multitude of novel, active ingredients and advanced formulations being introduced for the first time in North America.
CDU: Why was Reimagining Renewal and Wellness selected as this year’s theme for the NYSCC Supplier’s Day Show?
SH: With the stressors that we have all experienced in the last few years, NYSCC decided to focus on “Reimagining Renewal & Wellness.” At Suppliers’ Day, May 2-3, at the Javits Center in New York, we plan to bring our theme to life with several new activations and educational programs.
The event will explore how wellness, and eco-consciousness touches all areas of the industry shining a light on sustainable beauty with circular solutions, devices, inside/out beauty, microbiome, and oral care.
Our Week of Beauty will create an immersive experience to invoke the senses with functional solutions. Fragrance will be an important category with strong wellbeing connections along with Biotech solutions.
By ’Reimagining Renewal & Wellness’ and all that it embraces at the event, we will attract new attendees that may not necessarily be tapped into the traditional beauty and personal care space from a color-skin-hair perspective, and this will foster dynamic conversations and collaborations that helps all industries.
CDU: What are some of the most intriguing educational opportunities being offered this year?
SH: With more than 100+ hours of programming this is our most expansive and diverse program to date. Suppliers’ Day features curated educational blocks that cover science and technical programs such as “Biotechnology in Personal Care Product Development;” “Hair & Scalp Renewal & Wellness;” as well as pre-event SCC CEP courses on “Formulating Natural Oils and Butters for the Cosmetics Industry,” and “Introduction to Sensory Characterization of Cosmetic Emulsions.”
Product development sessions include “Microbiome: Inside/Out Beauty;” “Digital Age of Beauty;” “Fragrance: The Invisible Art;” “Discover Sustainability;” “World of Chemistry,” and the PCPC & IKW program on: “Reimagining, Renewal, & Wellness: Modernizing Cosmetics Regulations.” Two lunch and learns will focus on “Natural Ingredients, More Tech and Science Needed: A Discussion with the Experts!” and “Catching China’s Beauty Trends.”
Programs that provide product launch intelligence and future inspiration include the “INDIE 360°,” “IBA: Truth in Beauty Sci-Comm Influencers Panel,” “Presentation Theater” featuring exhibitors’ innovations and in the Main Stage “Hot Topics” featuring lightning sessions on industry trends and forward-thinking inspiration.
There is truly something for everyone at NYSCC Suppliers’ Day, and it is the best education in the business.
CDU: Are there any new opportunities, seminars, or events being offered for the first time during this year’s show?
SH: Yes, every year our Scientific Advisory Committee curates programs on relevant topics in cosmetic science and I am very excited about the “Biotechnology in Personal Care Product Development;” and “Hair & Scalp Renewal & Wellness;” programs. We also have two lunch learns that are co-sponsored by industry partners that are mentioned above and will provide insight on what the future looks like for the Chinese marketplace and a global perspective on how naturals are defined.
For the first time, on the Show Floor in the Main Stage we will have Hot Topics on Cosmetics Claims Compliance Controls; Oral Care Product Development; Where Color Cosmetics Have Been and Where They’re Going; P4 Inclusive Cosmetics; What’s Next in Ingestible Beauty; Providing Solutions for Wellness for a Diverse Consumer and an Influencers Chemist Panel discussing Truth in Beauty.
There will also be an Influencers Lounge on the Show Floor with set times for attendees to meet with the influencers in attendance including Gloria Lu and Victoria Fu of @chemistconfessions, Ana Allen and Lisa Guerrera.
NYSCC Suppliers’ Day will also continue its outreach and empowerment of students and young professionals. The Future Chemists Workshop on May 2nd , increased its collaboration with SCC Chapter’s across the country as well as new academic institutions to allow a wide breadth of students to experience this unique real-world lab experience on the show floor.
There will also be a special presentation from Cynthia Johnson, Founder & CEO, Cindy J Cosmetic Labs, LLC as well as a Mentorship Mixer and a robust Career Development program.
To amplify our theme of renewal and wellness, we will have a Wellness Walk that is our traditional Scavenger Hunt with a twist. Interactive stations will allow attendees to share their experiences including what resonated with them at the show, how many steps have they taken, and what does renewal mean to them. These visuals and answers will be displayed on our digital Wellness Wall on the Show Floor.
There will also be a Re-Charge Lounge where attendees can literally have their senses immersed in sights, scents, sounds and tastes that speak renewal!
Our Industry Awards Night, which is not new, is always a must attend evening to renew, recharge and network. The eight finalists of the CEW Beauty Creators Award for the Ingredients & Formulation Award will also be revealed.
CDU: Anything else to add?
SH: Suppliers’ Day is something that we at NYSCC always look forward to every year and this year’s event is poised to be our biggest and most interactive rendition. Being this is THE event FOR the industry BY the industry – we have our pulse on the latest innovations and educational needs and can seamlessly meet those demands in the most cost-effective, time-efficient manner.
Without a doubt, Suppliers’ Day will fulfill your top three business needs: New Products, Education, and Networking. I encourage everyone to register to attend and to begin planning their agenda for the event at www.nyscc.org/suppliers-day.
