On October 30, Ecovia Intelligence’s Sustainable Cosmetics Summit will kick off with its cohosted Sustainable Beauty Awards reception. The Sustainable Beauty Awards have been running for over a decade, since 2013, and acknowledge “operators who are pushing the boundaries of sustainability in the beauty industry.”
To learn more about the Awards event, including background information, the categories for consideration, and ways to enter, CosmeticsDesign spoke with Amarjit Sahota, Founder of Ecovia Intelligence, for his insights.
About the Awards
“The Sustainable Beauty Awards is the first international awards dedicated to sustainability in the cosmetics industry,” shared Sahota, and the Awards were launched “to honor cosmetic brands, ingredient firms, packaging suppliers and other firms that are leading in some area of sustainability.”
Those recognized in this year’s cohort will join a group of previous winners who include “large companies like L’Oreal, Unilever and Boticario Group; sustainable/organic brands such as Weleda, Lush, O’right, Aveda and Neal’s Yard Remedies; ingredient firms like AAK, IFF and Clariant, as well as others like Sulapac, Sol de Ibiza and Cruelty Free International,” he added.
Experts in various areas of the cosmetic and personal care product industries will judge this year’s Awards. These experts “will evaluate and rate entries for the award categories,” and “the judging panel are from a leading natural foods retailer (Whole Foods Market), raw material supplier (Evonik), natural cosmetics industry association (Natrue), cosmetics media (Cosmetics Design NA), and consulting firm (Ecovia Intelligence),” he explained.
Categories for consideration
There are five categories for consideration in this year’s Sustainable Beauty Awards. The first category is New Sustainable Products, which are new cosmetic or personal care products with significant sustainability credentials, and the second is Sustainable Packaging, which covers “new packaging formats that have a low environmental footprint in terms of materials, design and/or application,” as detailed in the organization’s promotional materials.
The third category will examine Sustainable Ingredient, which are “cosmetic ingredient that [are considered to] make a significant difference in terms of environmental and/or social impact,” and the fourth category honors Sustainable Pioneers who are industry operators who have, in some respects, been a leader in their area in sustainability efforts.
The fifth and final category is Sustainability Leadership, which honors organizations that have been exemplary in their sustainability efforts.
