In-Cos trendspotting: CosmeticsDesign sits down with Kenvue Head of R&D NA

In our chat with Adam Ricciardone, we discuss everything from his key conference takeaways to Kenvue's sponsorship of the In-Cosmetics Awards and more.

“What’s really has caught my eye is the sustainability piece. I guess it’s no surprise, but just to see it so prominent now across all the booths. Previously it was a little tagline down at the bottom, but now it’s front and center – sustainable, bio-based, COSMOS approved, it’s all things that consumers are asking for. We’re all asking to move to a more sustainable space, and when you talk to suppliers, it is all about sustainability, about what are we doing to have less of an impact on the earth. That’s really what's front and center: consumer need, efficacy, and sustainability are my three key takeaways," said Adam Ricciardone, Global Head of R&D - Skin Health & Beauty and Head of R&D - North America at Kenvue.

During a busy In-Cosmetics Global conference, CosmeticsDesign sat down with Adam Ricciardone for a quick chat about all things Kenvue and for an expert opinion on compelling trends currently dominating the beauty and personal care spaces. We cover a lot of ground in a short time and discuss everything from Kenvue's experience at their first In-Cosmetics show to their sponsorship of the well-attended In-Cosmetics Global Awards, as well as their recent research presentations at AAD (previously covered by CosmeticsDesign here) and Ricciardone's key takeaways from this year's show.

As detailed above, Ricciardone's key takeaways include consumer need, efficacy, and sustainability - all sentiments which we echoed in our own key takeaways coverage. As natural ingredients continue to take the place of synthetic versions and innovations continue to drive momentum in R&D efforts, it's clear that 2024 is the year for ingredient formulation to take the driver's seat in best meeting consumer needs.
