Entries now open for the 2024 Sustainable Beauty Awards
The 2024 Sustainable Beauty Awards, which recognize sustainability achievements within the cosmetics and personal care industry, are now open for entries. Organized by Ecovia Intelligence, these awards highlight the efforts of companies and individuals committed to advancing sustainability in the beauty sector, with a strong emphasis on innovation and leadership.
2024 Award categories
This year’s awards feature five categories:
- New Sustainable Product Award: This category recognizes new cosmetic or personal care products with strong sustainability credentials. Products that reduce environmental impact, use ethically sourced ingredients, or feature innovative eco-friendly formulations are prime candidates for this award.
- Sustainable Ingredient Award: This award honors new ingredients that significantly contribute to the sustainability of cosmetic and personal care products, including breakthroughs in green chemistry and innovative uses of natural resources.
- Sustainable Packaging Award: Packaging is critical in the beauty industry’s environmental footprint. This award is given to a packaging format that minimizes environmental impact, whether through the use of recycled materials, reduction of waste, or innovations in biodegradability.
- Sustainability Pioneer Award: This award celebrates companies or individuals who are spearheading actions to advance sustainability in the beauty industry. It honors those who are leading the way in implementing sustainable practices, whether through research, business models, or significant environmental or social impact initiatives.
- Sustainability Leadership Award: This category recognizes organizations demonstrating leadership in various aspects of sustainability, including sourcing, production, and community engagement.
A look back at the 2023 Awards
The 2023 Sustainable Beauty Awards finalists represented a broad spectrum of innovative approaches, from pioneering ingredient technologies to revolutionary packaging solutions, and the diversity of the 2023 finalists also underscored the global nature of the sustainability challenge and the importance of collaborative efforts to address it.
Companies from Europe, Asia, and beyond demonstrated that sustainability is not just a regional issue but a global imperative that requires innovative solutions and shared knowledge.
For example, Ringana, an Austrian brand, was recognized for its zero-waste approach to packaging, using only reusable, recyclable, or compostable materials. Additionally, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) from Taiwan also received an award for developing sustainable materials that could potentially revolutionize the packaging industry.
Other companies, like DTS Europe and O’right, were recognized for their approaches to minimizing environmental impact and advancing sustainable practices. Further, Apivita was acknowledged for its approach to responsible sourcing, waste minimization, and fair trade practices; similarly, Weleda was recognized for its commitment to biodynamic farming and holistic sustainability.
In the 2023 Sustainable Ingredient category, companies such as Organic Bioactives from New Zealand and MacroHI from Taiwan were finalists, reflecting the importance of sustainable ingredient innovation within the industry.
Key dates and recognition
The closing date for entries is September 20th, 2024. Finalists will be notified by October 7th, with the winners announced at a dedicated awards reception on the evening of October 23rd in Paris. The event will be held at the Crowne Plaza – Republique hotel and will coincide with the European edition of the Sustainable Cosmetics Summit, which runs from October 23-25th.
