People on the Move: Noteworthy employment shifts in Q3 2024

In Q3 2024, the beauty industry experienced significant leadership changes, including Julie Rosen's departure from Bath & Body Works, Galen C. Smith's appointment as CEO of IPSY, Stephanie Stahl joining Edgewell's Board of Directors, and Nicole Mancini becoming a Principal Perfumer at dsm-firmenich, among other key moves at The Estée Lauder Companies and Revlon.

Leadership changes at Bath & Body Works

Bath & Body Works announced that Julie Rosen, President of Retail, has stepped down, effective immediately. She will serve in an advisory role during the transition.

The company is eliminating her position, with most of her responsibilities shifting to CEO Gina Boswell. In a media statement, Boswell stated, "We believe that now is the right time for this change and that we will benefit from accelerated decision-making as a flatter organization."

IPSY welcomes new CEO

IPSY has appointed Galen C. Smith as its new CEO, effective immediately. Smith brings over two decades of leadership experience in membership-based businesses, including transforming Redbox Entertainment into a digital entertainment company.

Marcelo Camberos, IPSY co-founder, praised Smith as a "customer-centric leader" and "transformational brand builder" in a media statement. Smith expressed excitement for his new role, stating in the same press release that, "I couldn't be more excited to join this talented team and take it to the next level."

C-Suite shifts and new Board of Directors appointment at Edgewell Personal Care

Edgewell Personal Care announced the appointment of Stephanie Stahl to its Board of Directors, effective September 10, 2024. In a press release, CEO Rod Little praised Stahl as an "experienced and accomplished leader" with significant marketing and strategy expertise.

Stahl expressed excitement in the same press statement, sharing that "I am honored to join the Edgewell Board" and highlighting her admiration for the company's growth and innovation. Stahl's extensive background includes leadership roles at Coach, Revlon, and co-founding Ace of Air, alongside her current board positions at Dollar Tree, Carter's, and Newell Brands.

In addition to Stahl’s appointment to the Board of Directors, Dan Sullivan has been appointed COO of Edgewell while continuing as CFO until December 1, 2024. He now oversees the newly consolidated International business, along with Finance, IT, Strategy, and Global Operations.

Francesca Weissman, currently Senior VP of Finance and Business Strategy, will succeed him as CFO, taking over on December 1, 2024. She will manage all aspects of corporate finance, including Accounting, Investor Relations, and Treasury.

dsm-firmenich expands fine fragrance team

dsm-firmenich welcomed Nicole Mancini as Principal Perfumer to its Fine Fragrance Experience team in North America. With over 20 years of industry experience, Mancini is recognized for her expertise in creating renowned fragrances, including the award-winning "Kylie Nude Lips."

Robin Mason, President of Fine Fragrance North America, praised her for bringing a fresh perspective to the team, and shared in a media release that Mancini’s “passion for creating delightful and memorable scents will bring a new perspective to our talented roster of perfumers.” In her new role, Mancini will focus on cross-category creations, aiming to elevate fragrance artistry at dsm-firmenich.

M·A·C Cosmetics appoints new Senior VP

M·A·C Cosmetics appointed Emily Bromfield as Senior Vice President of Global Marketing, effective August 26, 2024. Reporting to Aïda Moudachirou-Rébois, Bromfield will oversee the brand’s global marketing strategies across all categories and channels.

She brings extensive experience from roles at Dr. Barbara Sturm and Charlotte Tilbury, where she drove significant brand growth. In her new role, Bromfield will focus on expanding M·A·C’s global presence through storytelling, product innovation, and immersive consumer experiences, further enhancing the brand’s positioning.

Multiple leadership transitions at The Estée Lauder Companies

Fabrizio Freda, President and CEO of The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC), announced plans to retire at the end of fiscal year 2025. Regarding his retirement, Freda shared in a press statement that “as we manage for the long term, now is the right time to look ahead to the next generation of leadership for this great company.” The Board is actively progressing with its succession process, considering both internal and external candidates.

Freda will continue to lead the company’s strategic and financial priorities, including the Profit Recovery and Growth Plan, until his successor is named. After his retirement, he will serve as an advisor through fiscal year 2026 to ensure a smooth transition.

In addition to Freda’s retirement, ELC also announced the appointment of Rashida La Lande as Executive Vice President and General Counsel, effective August 19, 2024. La Lande, with over 25 years of experience, is now leading ELC’s global legal organization and serve as a strategic advisor on complex legal issues.

She previously held senior roles at The Kraft Heinz Company, overseeing corporate governance, regulatory matters, and ESG activities. Her extensive background positions her well to support ELC's strategic growth initiatives.

Additionally, ELC has appointed Akhil Shrivastava as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, effective November 1, 2024. He succeeds Tracey T. Travis, who is set to retire in June 2025.

With over 25 years of experience, Akhil has held various senior finance roles at Estée Lauder since 2015. He will oversee Global Finance, Accounting, Tax, and Treasury, and is tasked with driving sustainable growth and enhancing financial strategy within the organization.

In other employment news from ELC, Tracey T. Travis, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The Estée Lauder Companies, will retire on June 30, 2025, after over 12 years of leadership. She has significantly shaped the company’s financial strategies and operations, enhancing its financial strength and supporting long-term growth initiatives.

A successor will be appointed soon, and Travis will assist in the transition. Throughout her career, she has received numerous accolades, including recognition as one of the “Top 100 African Americans in Corporate America.”

Revlon partners with Terri & Sandy for brand revitalization

Revlon Group Holdings partnered with independent creative agency Terri & Sandy to revitalize four brands: Almay, Mitchum, Crème of Nature, and American Crew. Terri & Sandy will create a new brand platform and marketing strategy, focusing on a digital-first approach tailored to each brand's target demographics.

"Terri & Sandy was chosen for the strength of its strong strategic skills, track record of business-building advertising, ability to speak to the varying target audiences, and their 'fun but polished' personality that blended well with the client," said Peter Carter, Creative Haystack's Founder & CEO in a press statement announcing the partnership. "It also didn't hurt that everyone at the agency wore Revlon lipstick when they met the client–and I mean everyone​,” he added.

This collaboration follows a competitive review process and marks Terri & Sandy's first major win under new President Peyton Sutton, and Revlon’s initial campaigns are set to launch in 2025.

Personal Care Products Council appoints new Executive Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications

The Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) has appointed Tesia Williams as Executive Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications. Williams brings over 20 years of experience in crisis communications and reputation management, previously leading global media relations at Johnson & Johnson and serving in significant roles at Edelman and the federal government. Her expertise will enhance PCPC's efforts in navigating complex industry issues and supporting member companies.
