An in vitro study was conducted to examine the effect of the polyol erythritol (ERYLITE®) on oral biofilm formation. Short exposure times of the biofilm to ERYLITE® were chosen to adequately reflect tooth brushing and mouth rinsing. For the first time, a significant reduction in bacteria associated with oral diseases was demonstrated in a realistic application scenario. ERYLITE® is a non-cariogenic, tooth friendly polyol to formulate innovative and effective oral care products with a clean label.
