Online beauty retail portal introduces ‘try-on’ technology

An online beauty retailing portal is aiming to ‘disrupt’ the way cosmetics are marketed and sold by offering consumers more of an insight into products.

Daily Makeover claims its newly launched Makeover Studio makes it a leader in virtual try-on technology – an application that allows consumers to test out products such as color cosmetics, to see how they match up.

The facility features advanced rendering capabilities that offer women a greater potential to connect with the products they intend to buy through virtual trialing, while also driving the fast growing e-commerce channel.

As well as encouraging consumers, it provides beauty providers a tool to engage consumers with their products, while in turn helping to build on product knowledge while increasing consumer loyalty.

60 major beauty brands join in

The online retailer says that it already has more than 60 major beauty brands and media publishers who are licensed to use the technology of their own accord, while the technology also features on its website.

“Advances in virtual reality are used very effectively in many industries and now we are bringing the same kind of advanced virtual makeover technology to the vast and lucrative female audiences buying beauty, fashion and health products,” said Jeannette McClennan, CEO of Daily Makeover.

The creators of the technology claim that its simple procedures allows women to try on make-up and other beauty products in much the same way as if they were actually in a real department store or beauty outlet.

Trialing products at home, rather than in-store

For cosmetic and beauty company this has long been the primary focus for them to allow women to trial their products, but the new technology aims to work in harmony with the increasing demand for online beauty sales, while filling in the void whereby consumers have been unable to test prospective purchases.

The technology is simple to use. The user simply uploads a photo of her face using the associated software, then the application techniques are automatically deployed, allowing the user to apply products such as lipstick or eye shadow at will.

Going into more detail, the technology also allows the user to try different makeup finished, including satin, matte, metallic, shimmer, glossy or stained, which the placement and coverage levels can also be adjusted at any time.

Ultimately the company claims that the technology allows users to accurately see what beauty products look like before they make the purchase, allowing them to avoid potential mistakes.
