Mason Chemical Company seals patent for sanitizer

A Patent and Trademark Office award has been granted to Mason Chemical Company for a hand sanitizer that is claimed to be gentle on skin while killing microbes.

The patent was issued to company founder Michael Curtis, who is also recorded as being the inventor of the formula.

The formula has been trademarked under the name Nobac is based on benzalkonium chloride and has a conditioning effect that means, unlike most conventional hand sanitizers, it does not dry out the skin.

Unlike the majority of hand sanitizers that rely on alcohol to kill germs on the skin, the Nobac formula uses benzalkonium chloride to kill a claimed 99.9 percent of common germs.
