The beauty maker is helping hairdressers around the world exceed the usual salon safety and sanitary measures, to keep themselves and clients safe by supplying masks, hand sanitizer gel, and new operating guidelines.

L’Oréal is helping get masks to salons around the worlds. The company has plans to distribute some 8.5m protective masks to salons across Europe, 20m here in the US, and will be distributing 1m for hair salons in Canada.

Quoc Chay, President of L'Oréal Professional Products Division in Canada does say in the company’s recent media release that, “The L'Oréal Professional Division in Canada has over 50,000 hairdresser partners operating in 11,000 hair salons.”

"As a committed partner to the industry,” says Chay, “we are strongly mobilised to help them navigate through these challenging times with the primary objective of ensuring the safety of our partners, their employees and consumers, just as L'Oréal Canada is doing for theirs and thus reducing the impact on salon and distributor businesses.”

L’Oréal is supporting hairdressers with more than just masks following Coronavirus shutdowns

L’Oréal is also manufacturing and distributing 150,000 bottles of hand sanitizer to hair salons as they reopen when local, regional, or national mandates allow. Some—but not all—of the masks and hand sanitizer gel will be given out as a donation, according to the L’Oréal release.

Masks and sanitizer which is not donated is available for purchase online—once salons are able to legally open in the member salon’s respective country.

L’Oréal has also drafted operating guidelines for reopening salons. As the company’s media release notes, “The guidelines for operating a hair salon post-confinement, in line with those proposed by the Allied Beauty Association (ABA), include hand cleansing, tool disinfecting, salon routing, pre-booking, reorganisation of salons to space out appointments and electronic payment, all so as to ensure the social distancing requirements.” Guidelines will be available on the L’Oreal pro hair brands’ sites and will be accessible to everyone in the salon business, not only the company’s salon partners.

The beauty maker halted salon payments on March 24th (for product orders made prior to that date) in Canada and a short time later did the same here in the US, as Cosmetics Design reported.  And upon reopening, “a payment plan will be put in place,” says the release.

And the L'Oréal Professional Products Division in Canada has been active to keep hairdressers up-to-date on their skills and visible to their clientele by “providing extensive online learning to hairdressers on local social media channels, in order to help upskill them while their businesses are temporarily closed. Hairdressers have also been regularly featured on social media channels in order to help them maintain their important connection with consumers.”
